Mentorship has provided her with a trusted resource to ask questions, gain perspective and learn from others' experiences.

How can mentorship help early-career professionals develop competencies, boost confidence, and improve workforce readiness?

Mentorship can help accelerate development by providing guidance, real-world insights, and honest feedback. It can also help build confidence by having someone you trust to turn to for advice. Another major benefit is networking. Mentors can introduce you to new people and opportunities that help you expand your professional network and learn from a broader range of experience.

Can you share a specific piece of advice or lesson from a mentor that had a lasting impact on your professional growth?

One piece of advice that has stayed with me is, "You don't need a title to lead." That statement helped shape my perspective on leadership. It reminds me that leadership isn't tied to a position; rather, it's about taking initiative, supporting others, and positively influencing the people around you.

How can mentees make the most of a mentorship relationship?

Come into the relationship with clear goals and an understanding of what you'd like to gain from the experience. Be open to feedback and be willing to take action on what you learn. One of the best ways to demonstrate that you're invested in your own growth is to follow through. When a mentor provides advice or guidance, apply it when you can and share your progress. It shows that you value their time and are committed to your own development.

What is the most valuable lesson about mentorship that early-career professionals should I know?

Don't wait for a formal mentorship opportunity to start learning from others. Some of the most valuable lessons come from the people around you every day. Ask questions and learn from colleagues, leaders and peers.

What makes a mentor-mentee relationship effective, valuable, and rewarding for both individuals?

A successful mentor-mentee relationship is built on trust, open communication and clear goals. Both people should be invested in the relationship and willing to share knowledge, feedback and experiences. Having clear expectations around what the mentee hopes to gain from the relationship helps ensure the time together is meaningful and impactful.

What advice would you give to someone who wants a mentor but isn't sure how to build that relationship?

Don't be afraid to start small. Look for people whose experience or leadership style you admire and build a relationship. Mentorship often begins with simply asking thoughtful questions and showing an interest in learning. Mentorship can happen naturally. Some of the people I consider mentors aren't people I've ever formally asked to mentor me. They're people whose perspectives I value, who are willing to share their experiences, and who have shown an interest in my development. Those relationships have been incredibly meaningful and demonstrate that mentorship doesn't always have to be formal to have an impact. Sometimes the best mentors are the people you consistently learn from, trust and turn to for guidance throughout your career.
