What I Wish I Knew - Tom C., Vice President/General Manager

Map of the the US and Europe with Tom C.'s career path mapped out

As Vice President and General Manager of the St. Louis operating group for the last five years, Tom C. takes great pride in carrying on Enterprise’s legacy in the city where the company began more than 60 years ago.

“It is absolutely an honor to have the unique responsibility of overseeing the group where Jack Taylor started it all,” says Tom. “We are all very proud to not only represent our Group, but the Taylor family as well.”

Tom has come a long way from when he began his career 25 years ago in New York. He worked his way up the rental ranks, managing branches in Great Neck and Lynbrook. Prior to moving to St. Louis in 2014, Tom led Puerto Rico for two-and-a-half years.

Here’s the advice Tom would give his younger self:

  • Get a mentor you wish to emulate both personally and professionally
  • Have your career packet updated and ready to go
  • Cast your net wide when it comes to opportunities to advance your career
  • Drive performance every day
On being a leader
  • Being a good leader starts with having clear expectations and a performance vision
  • Surround yourself with a successful team, which comes from your ability to select great talent
  • Motivate your team to push their performance forward and, when achieved, continue to raise the bar
  • Always take care of your employees and celebrate the wins
On operations
  • Stay true to your plans. Sometimes results aren’t immediate, but follow the path you’ve established
  • Always take care of our brands
